Free and open source, for Windows and Linux, plus an experimental build for macOS. Unzip it and run it: Python and every library come inside, nothing else to install.

Needs ComfyUI to generate · LM Studio recommended · the install guide covers both

Install from scratch

  1. Extract the ZIP and double-click NomadStudio.bat. Windows asks once because the file comes from the internet: click Run.
  2. The setup wizard installs ComfyUI for you, plus Microsoft's Visual C++ runtime if your PC doesn't have it yet. The first start takes a few minutes.
  3. Pick an image engine. The wizard recommends the variant for your graphics card and downloads it from its authors.
  4. LM Studio is recommended. Install it from the wizard, go through its welcome and Nomad Studio connects by itself. Then choose a language model.
  5. Create your profile and keep the desktop shortcut ticked. Open Create › Simple and generate your first image.

Update in one click

  1. Nothing to download. Once a day Nomad Studio looks for a new version, downloads it and backs up your data.
  2. A notice tells you it's ready. Click Restart and update: a few seconds later you're on the new version, with your profiles, images and settings in place.
  3. You decide. In Settings › Updates you can check now, turn the automatic download off, or install a release file you downloaded yourself.

Setup

Four things to have ready.

Nomad Studio connects to your ComfyUI installation. Prepare the backend and model files before your first generation.

01 · HARDWARE

A compatible generation setup

The examples on this site use an NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti with 16 GB VRAM. Memory requirements depend on the model, precision and resolution. Check each workflow against your ComfyUI setup; browser access alone does not establish GPU compatibility on macOS or other systems.

Requirements vary by model Reference GPU: 16 GB VRAM Check backend compatibility
02 · REQUIRED

ComfyUI

ComfyUI generates the images. Connect your installation in Settings and check that it is ready before you begin.

Free & open source Connection test built in
03 · OPTIONAL

LM Studio

The local language and vision model for prompt assistance, chat, image description and style extraction. Entirely optional — most flows never call it, so you can run the studio without it.

Optional Most flows work without it
04 · MODELS

Image models

Install the models needed by the tools you want to use. Nomad Studio checks for missing files before generating.

Verified before running Downloadable from the app

An agent interface, included

The MCP server lets Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Antigravity and Bionic generate through the studio, each with its own identity and album, using the same models and the same speed presets. See how it works

Ethos & Business Model

Why is it free? No subscriptions, no hidden catches.

The studio is free and open source. Optional packs of templates, photo looks and add-ons support development and are sold separately.

01 · LOCAL & OPEN SOURCE

Your hardware does the work, not our servers

Generation uses your own hardware and locally installed tools such as ComfyUI. The studio does not charge per image or require a subscription. Check the data settings of any external services you choose to connect.

  • Creative tools included in the free studio
  • Local generation, no studio account required
  • MCP server for Claude & local agents included
02 · THE MARKETPLACE

Optional packs keep the studio being built

We never lock software features or your hardware capabilities. What the Marketplace sells is the integration work: flow packs, prompt template collections, photo looks and styles. Packs cost $2 to $6, bought once on Ko-fi, or $15 for Studio Pro with all six flow packs. If you never buy one, the studio never expires or slows down.

  • One-time payment, no recurring renewals
  • Drops straight into the studio in one click
